How much does our beauty routine cost us in terms of environmental impact? Still so much, there is little awareness of the problem.
So what to do to impact the environment as little as possible during our daily self-care?
Replacing disposable products with long-lasting reusable ones. In fact, every day we produce an incredible amount of waste through the accessories we choose to use in our bathroom.
If starting the Zero Waste Swap process seems difficult to you, let’s start by embracing the concept that “there is no such thing as perfection,” so it is okay to set ambitious goals, however, they need to be easily achievable, and then achieve them step by step, otherwise the risk is to abandon the path because you feel demoralized.
But where to start in our bathroom?
- BAMBOO OR RECYCLED PLASTIC TOOTHBRUSH, WITH INTERCHANGEABLE HEAD: As soon as the toothbrush in use is at the end of its life replace it with one of these two.
- REUSABLE DISCS: It’s time to say no more disposable discs! Did you know that on average a person consumes 730 discs a year? An absurd and senseless waste. The solution? I reusable diskettes. Ours are made of bamboo sponge, super soft and easily washed by hand or in the washing machine. If you usually use disposable wipes instead, it’s time to switch to the makeup removal cloth, a zero waste ally ideal for deep cleansing your skin without sacrificing gentleness.
- SOLID BATH AND SHAMPOO: Yes, you can totally eliminate plastic in the shower; you can use your new favorite solid bubble bath in a soft, specially designed shower mitt and then let it dry in a mesh soap-pouch so it doesn’t build up mold. Ditto for shampoo-there are several on the market and specific for everyone’s different needs.
- WOOD OR BAMBOO BRUSHES AND BRUSHES: they are a ‘sustainable alternative and do not break or damage hair. Moreover, wood is the perfect ally for healthy hair: it prevents frizz!
- BAMBOO make-up brushes: these are biodegradable and cruelty-free.
- METAL SHAVE: It is virtually indestructible, suitable for both him and her, and you will only need to change the blades from time to time.
- WASHABLE, BIODEGRADABLE ABSORBENTS OR THE COPETTE: These are the sustainable alternative to traditional tampons, which are highly polluting.
Now all you have to do is get started (I personally started with the reusable pucks) and remember not to throw away everything you already have at home, but to wait for the end of life of the products you are already using.
HAPPY ZERO WASTE SWAP!
